Foster care

I choose to do foster care because, I was one in foster care with my older sister. My family als
o did foster care for a lot of infants and toddlers. What I know about foster care is that there areis
many children from birth to the age of eighteen who are in the foster care system. You will get kids
your care whohave “gone through care.”. They have gone through abuse or neglect, sometimes
even both. You do get to choose the age or age of the children that you are able to care for.My
family took in newborns to two year olds. By the time the children have reached age
and are still in the system, then those kids are put on the streets to fend for themselves. Many
students who are in foster care struggle in school. Especially if the teacher asks the students to
do a family tree. Children who are in foster care have a very hard time feeling like they fit in with
others. They will be nervous around others and try to avoid conversations that have to do with their
past.  They are more likely to come to conclusions faster than normal kids will. The foster kids will
resort to their flight flight or freeze defense mode. Once a child's biological parents relinquishes their
rights the child will be put up for adoption.
What I've always wondered about the foster care system is what happens after the child goes back to
their biological parents. There areis supposed to be welfare checks, but are those really happening?
Some of my questions are: how does the government decide if the child is hurt enough to be taken out
of the home? When a teenager of child complains about abuse in the house, what goes on in the
investigation with the parents? How do the caseworkers decide who is telling the truth between the
parents and the child? The main question that i want to focus on is what the process is to be licensed
to be a foster parent.  What I want to discover in order to answer my major question is the exact
process that it takes to even be eligible to participate bin becoming a foster parent.
The first part of my research I did by only looking into books before I dovedive into the internet to
find more about foster care. The first book I started with is called The Privilege of youth. This story
tells the struggles of teens who are in foster care Struggle at feeling accepted and have a harder time
at being able to hold friendships. It explains that children in foster care struggle more than kids who
are with their biological parents.
Another book is To The End Of June. Which describes the life of the American Foster care. The
struggles and the reality of what happens to the foster kids in a foster home. The Author Tells the story
of a child who has been in pain and went into the system to hope fully get help.
Another source that i Use was a website on The foster Care system: What parents wish we knew.
This is about the way most foster parents do foster care for. They do foster care for the money and not
about taking care of the children that they choose to help. It Explains that the children come into your
home and that they have lost everything. From there parents to their favorite toys or animals.
The last source was a book called The Blend of Foster and Adopted Children into the Family . This
book talks about how it is hard for the children to have a normal life if they are adopted or are in
 foster care.
What I found out so far was that many foster parents don't want to take part in the child's life; all t
hey want is the government's money. That the children sometimes don't want to be placed into a new
home or even want to be taken out of the house. I Have used Two books and one website to come to this conclusion because they all stated the same information but in different words.
I interviewed my adopted parents who use to work as a foster parents, and I soon found out that It
a lot of patientssp in order to be a foster parent. You have to face the parents of the child, plus there
loyer and the judge.
About 125,000 children in the U.S. are adopted each year. The cost of adoptions are from around
$10,000-$20,000 per year Source?.
There are five types of foster care: emergency, pre-adoption, limited, permanent, and specialized.
Emergency foster care is when a sudden or unexpected problem in the home has made it difficult for
the parents to take care of their child. Pre-adoption foster care is when a child is placed in foster care
until her or she can be adopted.Source?

What I now know is that people do foster care for so many reasons. One reason is that they need
money this is one reason. or that they really want to help out kids who need it. The findings that
meant the most to me Are how people can easily overtake the system by acting like they care for
the children that are in their care. As a result of this research, I've decided that when I have a stable
life i want to help out with foster children not for the money but out of the kindness of my heart.
Today we need more foster parents because we have so little that a lot of kids who need to get out
of there families can’t .
